The 2016 Ford Freedom Award Essay Contest is now open. Students in Grades 4 - 8 are invited to submit short essays on the following topic: Identify an African-American Man of Courage, think about the characteristics or qualities that made him successful, helped him overcome obstacles, or helped him inspire others. Think about how those characteristics or qualities could help you become successful in your life. Then write a short essay telling others how you have demonstrated those qualities of your Man of Courage and how they have helped you find success in your life and community. Winners will be awarded scholarships ranging from $250 - $5,000 at the 2016 Ford Freedom Award program. Educational supplements are available for download and will be delivered to schools that have placed orders by March 8. The supplement highlights notable work by and on behalf of African Americans in a particular field. Go to www.dnie.com for supplement downloads, complete details and an entry form.
