Every September, communities around the country come together to raise awareness and understanding about mental health and substance use issues, to celebrate those who are in recovery and to honor and remember the thousands lost to overdose and suicide each year. On Saturday, September 24th, 2016, Lake St. Clair Metropark hosts CARE's 4th Annual Bike PATH: Ride for Recovery. In addition to raising awareness about the epidemic currently plaguing our communities, Ride for Recovery promotes exercise, goal setting, and healthy living as the foundation for long-term recovery and enjoying life to its fullest. The event offers rides suitable for all ages and abilities, including 2 mile, 10 mile, 25 mile, 40 mile and 62 mile (Metric Century) rides along Jefferson Avenue to Belle Isle! Last year's event celebrated over 400 participants, 150 volunteers and hundreds of supporters who raised nearly $70,000 for community and family focused intervention and prevention programs. Proceeds from Bike PATH: Ride for Recovery provide critical funding for both prevention and intervention programs for low and moderate income individuals and families struggling with mental illness and / or addiction as well as children and youth considered at high risk or traumatized because of a family member or loved one's struggle with substance use or addiction to alcohol and other drugs.
