MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. – June 29, 2026Turning Point, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking, has received the Richard F. Huegli Award for Program Excellence from the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan (CFSEM).

CFSEM President and CEO Nicole Sherard-Freeman presented the award to Turning Point President and CEO Sharman Davenport, Ph.D., during the foundation’s annual meeting on June 24, 2026. The Richard F. Huegli Award recognizes a Southeast Michigan organization with a proven history of excellence in human services programming. Turning Point makes history as the first Macomb County-based nonprofit to receive this honor, which includes a one-time $5,000 grant.

"The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan has been a dedicated supporter of Turning Point’s mission, providing grant funding over the past 25 years," Davenport said. "The Richard F. Huegli Award holds profound meaning for us. It serves as broad recognition of Turning Point’s integrated, multi-pronged approach to supporting survivors. We are deeply grateful for CFSEM’s enduring partnership."

In her acceptance remarks, Davenport highlighted Turning Point's role as the sole provider of a comprehensive Forensic Nurse Examiner and First Response Advocacy program in Macomb and St. Clair counties. While public perception often assumes sexual assault examinations occur in traditional hospital settings, Turning Point is the exclusive facility in these counties equipped to deliver this specialized care. The organization's highly trained forensic nurses and advocates work in tandem to provide compassionate healthcare, gather forensic evidence, and administer preventative medications. Furthermore, the forensic nursing team provides critical medical evaluations and support for survivors of non-fatal strangulation. Turning Point has provided these specialized clinical services and advocacy support completely free of charge since 2000.
